Progressive Reform Project

Industrialize This
Industrialization is happening all around us and has been for quite some time now. It seems that no one can stop this reckless train they call Industrialization. It seems to be inevitable that the entire world will eventually be industrialized; there is simply no way to prevent it. Even in modern America we are constantly finding new things to introduce in to today’s society. The only problem with the world changing so quickly is that our planet can’t handle it. A study from 2006 will show that 82% of Greenhouse Gas Emissions are the property of energy related carbon dioxide. Now we all know how bad Greenhouse Gas Emissions are on our planet, the gas let off by our cars and factories are the leading cause of gas emissions. We can undoubtedly say that we are responsible for a large portion of our global warming. Aside from the fact that a majority of our factories are responsible for releasing all these toxins in the air the cars that we all drive are polluting our planet. SUV’s and what are known as “light trucks” have recently been on high demand, people buy these larger vehicles and I am unsure as to why. Could it be ignorance? Could it be just that people don’t care? Whatever the answer may be cars are damaging our environment but these SUV’s and trucks with the help of their low gas mileage emit 2.4 times more smog and 1.4 times more climate-altering carbon than passenger cars. There are ways around all of this pollution from cars, I know it’s implausible to think that everyone is going to change and go buy a hybrid, but every person that does is helping the cause. Several environmentally safe cars are out there but people don’t realize the damage they are doing compared to one of those drivers. Cars such as the smart car that runs on electricity are much better for our environment; Mazda is also releasing a car that emits only water. This car emits water while we are driving our 4x4 trucks around releasing carbon dioxide and all types of toxins in to the air that we breathe. Many cars now also come in a hybrid version, some are starting to catch on and realize the opportunities they are given with these special types of cars. If we go back to factories and plants there are different ways to get energy to run these operations, they can use cleaner more environmentally safe sources of fuel. What we can do to make industrialization sustainable has already been introduced, it’s just a matter of people understanding and deciding to change themselves. There are many groups that are trying to get their voices heard, but unfortunately they are falling on deaf ears. There is no one person or group that can claim full responsibility for these acts; it has been done over a period of time by many different groups. We can trace happenings of industrialization back to the progressive era when factories were really first being introduced. No one really tried to stand up to these factories, they were supplying jobs, they were producing goods, and the companies themselves were making money. Back then no one fully understood the affects of factories on the environment and we are taking a fall now because of it.

I-1000

The discussion about I-1000 started a long time ago. It is not the first time we discuss about helping people to die. I-1000 will help people who will die in 6 months. The doctor can help them if they want to die earlier and less paint full. Doctors can already prescribe drugs who help people to feel less pain but they can’t admitter them. Oregon is the only state who allows helping people to die. Facts are that many people wanted to die because they suffered so much pain every day. The drugs they got from their doctors weren’t strong enough to make them feel no pain. But they couldn’t die painless because there was no law who allows doctors to help them to die.
With I-1000 People who are a hundred percent sane have the chance to say they want to die. They have to say that twice. The second time they have it to say after at least 15 days. If they didn’t change their mind they will have finally the right to die. People who say twice they want to die don’t want to life anymore so why we shouldn’t allow them to die? We should give them the opportunity to decide about their own life. We don’t have the right to forbid them to die. That’s their decision.
Despite what some may claim, Initiative-1000's statistics show that it has hardly been abused. In the last decade, only 1 in 1000 people who died in an Oregon hospital actually took lethal prescriptions. If this privilege was being abused by Oregon doctors and families, this number should be much higher than it is.
There is no reason to prolong the suffering of a patient who is expected to die in six months anyway. If someone doesn't want to spend their last days in misery, they should have every right to end it early if they so choose. No one is forcing these people to do anything; there are very few ways in which Death With Dignity can be abused and those ways are already covered by the law.
There are many cases where this option can be used. This painkiller is not to be confused with any type of suicide or assisted suicide. This is a choice made by the victim who feels that their last 6 months would be too ubearable to live, keep in mind these victims will be dying soon anyways. Even if people do not decide to use the prescribed drugs they will feel much safer just knowing that the option is out there and knowing that if the pain becomes too much they can end it at any time. Family members may also be positively affected, if they know that the person is going to pass away they can be sure that they passed away before they had to withstand a great amount of pain.
Certain procedural precautions have been taken in order to ensure that the people using the drug are mentally stable. In order to get the doseage you are required to be checked off by several different doctors. This will ensure that anyone who partakes in use of this drug is mentally stable and not clinically depressed, it is a precaution to make sure that they are using it for the right reasons.
Experts will argue that is entirely the persons choice and doctors will not factor in to their choice at all, they will not recommend that they use the drug but only let them know that the choice is there. Fewer than 100 doctors were invloved in prescribing the lethal doseage. Many people, including family members of users, have said that they all felt much safer in knowing that an option such as this exists. People have actually commited suicide in order to prevent their families from having to take care of them, the lethal doseage also gives them another option. There are not many people that decide to use the drug but it is becoming common in more cases, people will even travel in order to be able to use the lethal doseage. All in all it positively affects most if not all cases, even if you don’t decide to use due to personal or maybe even religious beliefs it is entirely your own choice.

Debate Analysis

JO BIDEN (Obama)
1. McCain voted 477 times to raise taxes TRUFE
2. McCain wants to increase tax cuts by billions of dollars to business’ and corporations TRUFE
3. McCain has voted 20 times against clean alternatives of energy TRUFE
4. Same sex couples should have same rights as heterosexual couples except marriage TRUFE
5. McCain also voted against funding troops LIE

PALIN (McCain)
1. Obama and Biden voted for largest tax increase in US history LIE
2. Obama supported increasing taxes on families that only make 42,000 a year LIE
3. Obama wants to mandate health coverage TRUFE
4. She and McCain have not made any promises they can’t keep TRUFE
5. Health care plan will not cost any money LIE

Watching the presidential and the vice-presidential debate was time well spent during class, the debates were very enlightening and enjoyable. In both the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates the democratic party pulled away with a victory. The republicans told more lies while the democrats were accurate with their facts, this is shown above where Biden speaks the trufe 4 times out of 5 while Palin only 2 times out of 5. The republican party has taken a "whatever it takes" attitude toward the election and have now gone to giving false information.
Habits of Mind:
Biden: Striving for accuracy
Listening with understanding and empathy
Palin: Questioning and posing problems
Finding humor

president speech cont.

Department of Treasury
Republican for true
Keep it cool wit Coolidge
Calvin Coolidge is a playa fa real and makes it rain on a daily basis, BUT conservatively often sprinkling nickels and dimes, abolishing poverty one hoodlum at a time. The value of a dollar is dramatically decreasing and the United States is steadily falling in to a depression like that of the Great Depression. However with Coolidge at the helm of this revolution government money will be placed more wisely in to needed categories such as school funds. With Coolidge there will be no dramatic change in taxes. We will be saving millions of dollars by bringing troops back from Iraq allowing more diversification in the placement of tax payers money. And that’s how we do, keep it coo!

a big ol to-do list

There are many different types of jobs and severe as well as minor problems that the next president of the united states is going to have to deal with. As of right now I believe that Obama will be able to better serve this country. McCain's campaign has recently been know the "stretch the truth" or even avoided answering certain questions. On the other hand Obama's campaign has not been trying to conceal any unjust acts and will tell you truth, sometimes even at his own expense. It also appears that the McCain campaign has become more desperate, stooping down to tactics such as personal attacks toward Obama, while Obama resists the temptations to strike down on Senator McCain. The next president will face problems with our falling economy, as well as the problems flaring up in Iraq and Afghanistan. They will deal with a rising unemployment rate and also problems dealing with energy.
One bias example is that they quote all of McCain's benefitial quotes but will show faults in Obama's plans. Another example is they are showing that the writer is pro-republican coming down the democrat party by talking about all of Bush's faults and problems within the democratic party.
5 STATS:
1. In August 2000, 89 percent of Americans said the economy was doing well, according to a Los Angeles Times poll. I find this interesting because our economy is in a recession.
2. Bush's budgets have added $1.7 trillion to the national debt. This stat is significant because it shows how easy it is to get to debt.
3. Today, 82 percent of Americans say the economy is doing badly. I also find this interesting because just a couple years ago that 82 percent of people would have said we had a good economy. Just before Bush was elected.
4. Oil prices have set records due to global demand and tensions in the Middle East. We go to war with them even though they have such a dramatic impact on how we live
5. The cost of filling the tank of a Chevrolet Suburban by $62, to $131. This is an interesting statistic just because it shows the real affect of rising gas prices.

that president thing

Rutherford Birchard Hayes
Republican for real
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. Back in my day I was an American politician, a lawyer, a military leader and the 19th president of the United States. There were many presidents that served in the Civil War, but I was the only one to be wounded in battle. However time has passed and I am now super agile with lighting fast reflexes. My political career really started when I ran for Governor of Ohio, I terminated my opponents and served a 4 year term. Now in my presidential election I was the only president whose election was decided by a congressional vote, and also the first president to take the oath of office in the white house. My most controversial act as president was my reaction to the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. For the first time ever in US history military soldiers were ordered to fire on citizens killing more than 70. We were able to regain peace but at a horrible cost. I was not very involved in foreign policy but somehow I still managed to become a hero in Paraguay. The most memorable bill I signed was one that allowed female attorneys to argue in the Supreme Court.
Enough about my past, all that is really important is the future and how this country is going to be served and what the best wu tang song is. I am by far the most qualified person to lead this country. I have been know to frequently make it rain, but on a budget, saving the economy and leaving more money in tax payers’ pockets. I am with the majority of the people saying that we need to bring our troops home, we have been in Iraq just too long all because of one persons inability to keep it real. In the 186 years since my birth I have learned a lot, from mastering the art of keeping it real to how to be a great leader and be the voice for others. My voice will be that of the people, for the people. After all it is your country; you all make this country what it is. As president of the United States I will help get this country back on track to being the greatest country in the world.

Da Blog Rules

5. Please, no last names, school names or addresses.

4. Do not link to your personal blog/journal from your school blog; you might reveal information on there that you don't want to reveal on your school blog.

2. If you want to write your opinion on a topic, make sure you're not going to be offensive to anyone as you write it.

9. Always make sure you check over your post for spelling errors, grammar errors, and your use of words.

1. Never disrespect someone else in your blog, whether it's a person, an organization, or just a general idea. You don't want someone making a stab at what you are passionate about; don't do it to someone else.

3. Don't write about other people without permission; if you can't get their permission, use first names only. Never share someone elses last name.

6. Watch your language! We're not at home, we are at school, this has to be at least remotely professional looking.

7. Make sure things you write about are factual. Don't be posting about things that aren't true.

8. Keep it education-oriented. That means that you probably shouldn't discuss your plans for the weekend.

The reason I chose that rule as my number one is because you should always show respect to other people especially if there going to open up and trust you to read there blogs
