Industrialize This
Industrialization is happening all around us and has been for quite some time now. It seems that no one can stop this reckless train they call Industrialization. It seems to be inevitable that the entire world will eventually be industrialized; there is simply no way to prevent it. Even in modern America we are constantly finding new things to introduce in to today’s society. The only problem with the world changing so quickly is that our planet can’t handle it. A study from 2006 will show that 82% of Greenhouse Gas Emissions are the property of energy related carbon dioxide. Now we all know how bad Greenhouse Gas Emissions are on our planet, the gas let off by our cars and factories are the leading cause of gas emissions. We can undoubtedly say that we are responsible for a large portion of our global warming. Aside from the fact that a majority of our factories are responsible for releasing all these toxins in the air the cars that we all drive are polluting our planet. SUV’s and what are known as “light trucks” have recently been on high demand, people buy these larger vehicles and I am unsure as to why. Could it be ignorance? Could it be just that people don’t care? Whatever the answer may be cars are damaging our environment but these SUV’s and trucks with the help of their low gas mileage emit 2.4 times more smog and 1.4 times more climate-altering carbon than passenger cars. There are ways around all of this pollution from cars, I know it’s implausible to think that everyone is going to change and go buy a hybrid, but every person that does is helping the cause. Several environmentally safe cars are out there but people don’t realize the damage they are doing compared to one of those drivers. Cars such as the smart car that runs on electricity are much better for our environment; Mazda is also releasing a car that emits only water. This car emits water while we are driving our 4x4 trucks around releasing carbon dioxide and all types of toxins in to the air that we breathe. Many cars now also come in a hybrid version, some are starting to catch on and realize the opportunities they are given with these special types of cars. If we go back to factories and plants there are different ways to get energy to run these operations, they can use cleaner more environmentally safe sources of fuel. What we can do to make industrialization sustainable has already been introduced, it’s just a matter of people understanding and deciding to change themselves. There are many groups that are trying to get their voices heard, but unfortunately they are falling on deaf ears. There is no one person or group that can claim full responsibility for these acts; it has been done over a period of time by many different groups. We can trace happenings of industrialization back to the progressive era when factories were really first being introduced. No one really tried to stand up to these factories, they were supplying jobs, they were producing goods, and the companies themselves were making money. Back then no one fully understood the affects of factories on the environment and we are taking a fall now because of it.
